What Can I Do?

What should we do together, as joint actions?
What to expect from government?

To combat Climate Change, we need a political will to change and strong government leadership. For that to happen, we must request, reclaim and support required government action.

We can do that as individuals but to bring about change we have to come together, be part of a group, an organization, a movement. See Outreach/ Initiatives.
Here some basic steps to consider:

    • Stay informed and spread the word, let people know about climate change, convince them to join the movement
    • Let politicians know that environment is a priority for you, so that it will also become their priority.
    • Request the development and support the implementation of transition plans to clean energy. For more on transition plans, press “Transition Plans” on the right.
    • Request and follow up on national and regional carbon budgets (shares of remaining CO2 before reaching 2 degrees C). For more information on Carbon Budgets, press “Carbon Budgets” on the right.

All countries have agreed that we should stay well below 20C temperature increase globally, but the “contribution” (NDC) countries sent to the UN, and national laws and plans do not live up to that agreement.

We, the people have to get involved and request our government to step up!

This is new to most of us but we learn from each other, do it together and coordinate our action.

What does it take to stop CO2 emissions and halt climate change?

I. Transition to renewable energy.
In 2020 emissions should start to reduce. New infrastructure must be built, so carbon, oil and gas; fossil fuels, can be fully replaced with clean energy, such as solar, wind, hydro, thermal power before 2050. People must understand why this is happening, not resisting but requesting change. Subsidies must be replaced by taxes on fossil fuel while clean energy should be subsidized. People most affected should be compensated.

II. Parallel to this, much can be gained by improving energy efficiency.

Governments should set strict standards for energy efficiency in appliances, buildings (passive houses), vehicles etc., gradually increasing the efficiency requirements.

We must do our best to keep to these standards. Industry, business as well as individuals/families can bring down CO2 emissions (and their own energy costs) considerably by improving their energy efficiency.

Our  goal must be NOT TO PASS THE 1 – 20 C increase!

This affects everything else in our life.

Through webinars, On line courses and Training Material you can learn more about required laws and policies, transition plans and carbon budgets, and how you can follow the progress of your country.  You are also welcome to share your experience in a blog and social media.

WHY SHOULD I GET INVOLVED?

Because it is about us! We cannot watch how climate change ruins our life and planet, knowing we can make the difference!

Don’t hesitate, join ‘it is about us’.
